06.Sep.2009 All the Zune’s not named ZuneHD may R.I.P

Do you have a Zune? If you have one, and love it, from now on you must take great care of him. Because, last week, Microsoft decided to discontinue all of the Zune devices that don’t have in their names ZuneHD. That’s right, every model from the 4GB to the 120GB one, from now on, will not be produced, ceding the field to their new upcoming model the ZuneHD, which will be released on September 15 and with only two options to choose from, the 16GB priced at $220 and a 32GB one for $290.

Considered a risky move for Microsoft, now leaves their only multimedia device available for the “high-end” audience. Eliminating the possibility of gaining ground in the field of budget MP3 players, like the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Nano from its biggest rival, Apple.

We all know that the era of hard drive based MP3 players was coming to an end. But now with the elimination of all the hard drive based Zune’s, we could consider that era as (finally) finished! What’s left is Apple’s announcement of eliminating their only hard drive based player, the iPod Classic, and give pass to (maybe) an 128GB version of the iPod Touch. But now there are rumors around the web which says that Microsoft is working on a 128GB version of the ZuneHD. There’s nothing confirmed as of today, but so from now on, only time will tell.
